Google Analytics is on by default unless you have previously turned it off in this browser. You can turn it off or change your choice at any time using Analytics settings at the bottom of every page. Reading the publication does not require analytics. Your saved opt-out is respected on later visits.

What analytics records

Google Analytics helps us understand visits and how readers use the publication. It processes information about pages, interactions, browsers and devices. Advertising consent, Google signals and ad personalisation are disabled in this site’s tag configuration.

When enabled, Google Analytics can set the _ga and _ga_M6BEHQBN36 cookies to distinguish browsers and maintain session information. These cookies are configured to expire after two years, with expiry renewed by subsequent activity while analytics is enabled. Clearing your browser’s cookies removes them sooner.

Remembering and changing your preference

We store your explicit on or off choice in this browser’s local storage under happysysadm-analytics-consent. We do not record an affirmative choice merely because you leave the notice unanswered. This is a preference record, not an analytics cookie. It has no automatic expiry and remains until you change your choice or clear site data. Your choice applies to this browser and site; other browsers and devices have their own settings. Clearing site data also clears an opt-out, so the default applies again.

Switching analytics off stops further Google Analytics measurement on this site and attempts to remove its analytics cookies. It does not erase information previously received by Google. If browser storage is unavailable, your choice may not persist after leaving the page.
